4 July 2021Whale Watching Tour Cape Town
Your host Ivanhoe Sea Safaris has been rated on Trip Advisor as one of the best whale watching tour Cape Town operators.
5 Star rated and simply a most humbling experiences when you see such a magnificent creature within meters of the boat.
The Ivanhoe Skipper has had over 15yrs experience at whale approches.
1000's of close encounters, and we never make the animal feel threatened in any way, we allow them to come look at us!
Best close encounters, extremely ethical and permitted operator, operating since 1996 and the pioneer of the industry in south Africa.
Now you can see what you are in for, lets tell you a bit about the day.
Whale Watching Tour Cape Town starts at roughly 7am
You are collected by your friendly guide, who's only job for the day is to make your day one of the most memorable days you will have while visiting South Africa.
Firstly, you can sit back and relax, the journey can take up to 3hrs to arrive at the harbour where Ivanhoe Sea Safaris launch's from, Gansbaai.
Most people think Hermanus is the best place for whale watching, but they are wrong!
Gansbaai - De Kelders has proven year on year since 1996 to be the best place on the South African coastline, to view the whales.
On-Route you will visit many points of interest, this makes the day out from Cape Town one that is packed with beautiful scenery, lots of educational facts and a 2Hr boat trip that makes Africa Big 5 seem rather insignificant.
A Bull Southern Right Whale can weight as much as 60 tons and you could stand 7 Elephants on its back.
Tour Highlights Consist of the following:
- 7:00am +/- Hotel Pick-up
- Coastal drive from Cape Town
- Gordon’s Bay
- Betty’s Bay

What you Should See
Southern Right Whales - We approach to 50mts and then allow and hope the whale will come closer.
We may be lucky and find a few dolphin, they are always super entertaining, or we may even come across a super pod consisting of over 500 dolphin.
You will have to keep your eyes peeled, there are many different species of Marine Coastal Birds.
Viewing the whales by boat is the most majestic way to meet these animals, Ivanhoe Sea Safaris is one of the most Eco Friendly and Ethical operators in the whole of South Africa, we allow the whales to decide if they want to give close up encounters.
We visit the best Whale Watching area of Gansbaai, blessed by the Cliffs of De Kelders and proven to carry the most whales through season.
